Looking more closely at free captialism and home entertainment in the 1980s

I wanted to look at the bigger picture of my parents' experiences, and so I began to look at the free capitalist era. Here is an article of a man who looks at his father's experience as a distributor for Amway in the 1980s:

Free enterprise, individualism, entreprenuership: all words that would have sounded so attractive to anyone who wanted to make some extra cash during that time.

I also thought about Amway as part of the "weird home entertainment" nostalgia era, also considering tupperware parties and Avon. I found this article about Avon ladies in Russia, written in 1996:

I was especailly interested in this paragraph:

"While not a single saleswoman said she considered herself a ''feminist'' -- a word with a sharply negative connotation in Russia -- all spoke enthusiastically of the self-reliance they had won and of the opportunity they had gained to commingle with like-minded women. ''This kind of independence has changed the way we live; it changes our relationship with men,'' said Tatyana Navrodskaya, a Mary Kay consultant. ''But it's not feminism. You can still remain feminine.''

I feel this allowed me to make a connection with Mum's motivation to train as a colour analyst; was it female emanpication?
