Making the skirt: initial cutting out & sewing

Once I knew I wanted the super large skirt, I got about working out how much material I would need, and how to cut the fabric. I figured I would be able to cut the fabric in semi circles, which would also give me the length I needed. I also made notes from Rosie's advice on general rules for gathering material:

I then went and bought (what I thought I needed) the material, and began to cut it out. I had to do it on the floor and weigh it down with chairs as it was so big! In order to mark out the radius, I used a pen, tied to a piece of string, tied to a chair leg and kept it taught whilst drwing it out:

This next image shows where I ran out of fabric and had to cut out the last semi circle with a bit missing - I figured this had to do and I could always add a patch if needed to - I felt it wouldn't effect the skirt too much at this point.

I then took the pieces home and asked a supportive partner to hold one up to waist height, to see what it looked like. I love how the light diffuses through it - it seemed very long as a piece of fabric at this point, but I decided to carry on with the next step of sewing the pices onto the waist after seeing this:

Then with the 4 pieces sewn onto an elasticated wasitband:

It was at this point I realised I needed double the amount of fabric...noooooo!!! Off I went and got it.
